Jason Iskandar is a Chinese-Indonesian screenwriter and director born and raised in Jakarta. He is the founder of Studio Antelope, a renowned film production company based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Jason’s works delve into the intricate exploration of his ethnic identity and its intersections with various socio-cultural aspects within Indonesia, the world’s largest Muslim population country. His short films, including “Seserahan,” “Langit Masih Gemuruh,” and “Elegi Melodi,” have garnered recognition and have been screened at prestigious film festivals such as the Busan International Short Film Festival, Singapore International Film Festival, and Jogja-NETPAC Asian Film Festival, among others.
In December 2021, Jason achieved a significant milestone with the release of his first feature-length film, “Akhirat: A Love Story.” Co-produced by Studio Antelope, BASE Entertainment, and New York-based Ivanhoe Pictures, this captivating romantic fantasy film mesmerized audiences and showcased Jason’s exceptional ability to bring enchanting stories to life. Notably, “Akhirat: A Love Story” ranked as the 15th highest-grossing film in Indonesia in 2021, further solidifying its impact.
